You can't have "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" without having "What Are Little Boys Made Of?" so I am still busy getting that finished. I need to finish it before next Wednesday, when I set up for the shop hop. I have all of my applique ready to sew down and my embroidered saying is started. Hopefully, since I did all of my measuring and cutting as I cut out the "girl" version, it will go more quickly. Since the cupcakes have "sugar" and "sprinkles" ( crystal beads and seed beads), I am trying to add something special to the boy version, too.
My son commented that he wondered if people would think these old rhymes insulting to little boys. Personally, I don't think there's anything "bad" about snips and snails and puppy dog tails, do you? Those are all things in nature that many of us love. I raised three sons, taught hundreds of little boys, and I have a soft place in my heart for boys. I told him I would include an alternate rhyme for those who don't think like I do:
What are little boys made of? Things that run and everything fun. That's what little boys are made of!
(That's the best I could come up with, but I think it applies.) Besides, a lot of little girls aren't all that into sweets and butterflies, but its just a nursery rhyme, after all!

ReplyDeleteI love the little quilt. I love the old nursery rhymes. They may not be politically correct but they are what they are and should be just taken as part of our heritage.

ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable pattern! My sister has twin grandkids (boy and girl) who just turned three - I think this would be the perfect quilt to make for them!
ReplyDeleteOur two English teachers and I believe the original is best but you did write a nice substitute. Include both, but don't leave out the original!

Oh my gosh ~ That's adorable. I would love both the girl and boy for my two grandchildren who are both under 6 months actually. The nursery rhymes are what we were all raised with and most are still teaching them to their own children even now. I'm sure anyone would be thrilled with the sayings on those adorable quilts. (saying both as I'm sure the boys will be just as adorable as the little girls is)

ReplyDeleteBOTH quilts are simply adoreable. I will want both patterns to add to all the other projects I want to do. I wish I could get them all done. But I do love these quilts. Your applique is very nice.
