Progress and a Cute Little Sewing Machine!

My dad, who is an extraordinarily creative and skillful artist, is making a few of these little sewing machines for an upcoming crafts fair! This is his own design.(He has also made little tractors, cars, etc.) What you can't see from the photo is that if you turn the wheel, the "needle" (also wood and not too sharp) goes up and down. What little girl wouldn't be thrilled with a machine like this! It is about 10" or 11" wide - a perfect size for a wantabe seamstress! I think it would be a cute addition to some of our sewing rooms!
As far as progress after the fire,I am still filling out contents lists for the insurance company. This is probably the most difficult task so far. Could you remember every item in your house, when and where you bought it, and how much you paid for it?
I'm still doing fine emotionally and I still feel that everything will be fine in the end. Doug and I are safely tucked away right in the heart of family and the people around us have been amazing! My sincere thanks and appreciation goes out to all of you who have written encouraging emails and cards. Some of you have sent packages and I have had so much fun opening them up and discovering the contents! Early Christmas! I plan on putting all your cards in a scrapbook so that if I find myself bogged down in discouragement, I can pull out the scrapbook and see what an amazing group of people God put in my life! Thank you so much!!
Hopefully, I will have more to show you when all this insurance business gets behind me, but I wanted to give you an update.

Since I showed my house after the fire, I wanted to show some pictures of it before.

  1. What an adorable little machine! Your father is very clever! And your house....I hope you will be able to rebuild- it looks wonderful, with the stone front, the shutters and the attic-type windows! Blessings to you all....

  2. I absolutely love the sewing machine. Please could you tell me how much they cost?

I am so sorry about the house, but at least it was only the house and no-one was injured. I hope you get the insurance stuff sorted quickly so you can start to rebuild and replace everything.

  4. Sew happy to see you posting. Your dad really is a creative genius with wood. This little sewing machine is precious. I had not seen the after fire photos as the images hadn't shown. Today I see them and it really makes me realize the complete devastation you experienced. Filing all the insurance forms will probably be the worst of your tasks. Your strength and courage is truly inspiring dear. I keep a little basket with cards to review when I need to re-connect so I like your scrapbook idea. Blessings and angels will keep your spirits lifted on their wings.

  10. Darling sewing machine! Anyone....any age would love this! So good to see a post today. I can't imagine all of the logistics of the aftermath of a fire.....so many details. I guess you just take them one day at a time, one chore at a time. Prayers will continue....take care.

  13. Hi Linda....I was so sad when I read your post about your home. All those memories that happened there, but one thing about that, you still have the memories with you and you will now begin new ones when you get settled in your new homw. As others have said, at least no one was hurt. I send Blessings to you and your family.

  15. Linda, you are right, the sewing machines are adorable and will be a huge hit! Maybe you need to let us know the price for them and perhaps some of us can order some from your dad!! Looks like there is interest...maybe an esty shop for dad :) Your home was lovely and will be again! I guess the moral of your story is that we should take pictures of everything, update the pictures yearly and store all the pictures in the cloud or a safe deposit box on a memory stick. Maybe that receipt scanner is a good idea too, that way all that information going forward would be stored in an easily accessed way in the cloud!! Continued prayers for you!!!

  17. Your father's sewing machine is the cutest. I should have known that creativity ran in the family. I'm so glad that you have family to take you in and comfort you right now and I hope that the best wishes of people that you don't even know and will never meet can add to your feeling of being wrapped in hope for the future - people like me. All the best to you as you get on with it.

  19. The sewing machine is so cute, and I can tell it is very well made. Your father is quite an artist. I'm glad to hear you are maintaining a positive attitude about your house. But it is a loss. It's all right to grieve about it. I am glad you have family near and good friends to help you. I will be thinking of you as you make your way through this ordeal. Hopefully, the good memories will provide you and your whole family some peace and happiness.
