I have a tomato pin cushion, but it was one that I bought when I started to get serious about quilting, so I know there are not THAT many needles inside, but probably some that have slipped in. Thanks for such a great tutorial.Darhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05960683751935834250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7309493769526175391.post-91949718166569513402015-06-04T14:11:32.521-05:002015-06-04T14:11:32.521-05:00I'd heard that unbelievable numbers of needles...I'd heard that unbelievable numbers of needles could slip down into those pincushions, but I never knew that there was a reason why they were all shaped like tomatoes. When making a new pincushion, put in layer of cork or something to keep the needles from getting lost. I didn't really go any further than that initial flash, but it made sense.

And now you've given weight to my idea that some sort of barrier would be a good thing!

I'm really surprised at how many needles you found. I would have expected 5 or maybe even 10, but... wow!Fiber Babblehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01428452420851112349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7309493769526175391.post-25192426772062607712015-05-26T10:55:11.678-05:002015-05-26T10:55:11.678-05:00Oh my goodness Linda! I bet for sure your grandmother used some of those needles on your dresses. Seventy... wow! But that is not as amazing as 106 years... clearly your grandma didn't do things in a small way, LOL. This is a real treasure! And I was surprised to see how much needles were hidden inside this lovely tomato. By the way, never new why tomato shape was a popular design for pincushions (I saw it in many sewing books). Thanks for a very interesting post!Dariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13481964551585484667noreply@blogger.com
